Sea in the Sky

I have always loved clouds
how they bend, move, and transform
it's as if I am catching a glimpse of heaven breaking through
Bathed in colors of light reflected by stars
unafraid of being tied to something greater
White pillowy clouds move in breaths
in the sky
so close yet never touching the ground
Beauty witnessed and never felt
I stretch my fingers, stand on tiptoes
hoping to touch just the mist
But the ground holds me firmly, wrapping around my ankles
as gravity shoves my shoulders down
I am not meant to be in the clouds
I am not a bird who flys freely
in between the worlds of sky and earth

I am just a dreamer
longing, greedy, thirsting for more
yet afraid to embrace where I am planted
The shadows that no longer move in the wind
are only amplified by light
There, there is only breaking... not beauty
And I am so tired of being cut open
like a wound that refuses to stop
Is healing only found in the hurting?
Is suffering the only way to bear fruit?
You told me to be perfect, to fight
when all I wanted was to be held

To be told I was worth protecting
to say you are sorry I was not
To not make me fear the shadows and the storms
because of what is hidden and still felt
Love only seems to take
and yet I desire it so desperately
It starts to rain
the clouds become shades of darker greys and ash
water falls steadily
It smells so sweet
mixing in with tears of salt and hope
I hear thunder, but I am not afraid
as the ground's grasps retreats and the shadows come closer
For you speak in the thunder
you make lightning dance

You split the clouds like seas in the sky
Birthing something new
something beginning to live
The shadows rise ready to consume me
Yet the waves of clouds guide the sun's light in gold, pinks, and purples
Piercing through what used to be covered
cleansing what had started to rot
The cool rain now warmed against my skin
as clouds dance according to your hands
Painted, Positioned for a Purpose
being formed and expressed in love
What was once barren
now is budding with new life
Pinks, yellows, purples, orange
teasing and waiting to burst through
Beauty here I can touch
I can smell
I can be
As your spirit connects us
the dancing sea in the sky
and the beds of earth ready to bloom
Ready to breathe

How you rip apart shades of grey
like smudged charcoal and night
Birthing something new while still being formed
Taking shape and then releasing
Hungry to bend into something greater than itself
